eChalk is changing!

During the summer of 2016, eChalk and email will be changing. An important part of this change is that eChalk (http://app.echalk.com) and email (http://www.gmail.com) will have separate logons beginning on July 31. Both logons will require the entering of the user's complete e-mail address, not just the username.

eChalk has been updating its features for the past year, leading to a comprehensive change in how the site looks and what it offers. Uniondale students and staff will no longer be able to launch and access their email from within the eChalk gateway. As of July 31, users will be able to send and receive email from the district’s Google Apps domain.

Teachers will be rebuilding their class pages when they return from summer vacation. Self-registered parent eChalk accounts will not become available until later in the fall.

eChalk access for teachers

Before July 31, teachers can continue to log onto legacy eChalk as they did before.

After July 31, use the following url: http://app.echalk.com. Log onto the new system and confirm that your files have transferred correctly.

1.    Locate and click on the “person” icon in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

2.    Select My Files.

3.    Open the Transferred Content file.

4.    Your files from legacy eChalk should be there.

After July 31, legacy eChalk will no longer be accessible. Anyone visiting school or district websites will see new webpages.

eChalk access for students

After July 31, legacy eChalk will no longer be accessible. The new eChalk will not provide a gateway to Gmail; students will have to go directly to http://www.gmail.com and logon with their complete e-mail address in order to access mail.

eChalk access for parents

In legacy eChalk, parents were able to self-register and see the class pages hosted by their children’s teachers. New eChalk will offer similar capability but it will not be available until some time in the fall. Until then, parents are invited to view content on eChalk through public school, district websites as well as published teacher class pages.

A Message from Dr. Donald Humphrey,
Principal of Turtle Hook Middle School

Greetings THMS Families,
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year!  I encourage you to take a few moments to explore our website and familiarize yourself with all the information available.  We continue to utilize our ability to share information electronically through our website.  In addition, our Turtle Hook Families will continue to receive "School Messenger" telephone messages informing you of important events.
The Turtle Hook Administration, Teachers, and Staff are proud to announce that our strong Character Education program has been making a difference.  Turtle Hook Middle School has been recognized for this effort and has been named a National School of Character in addition to being named a New York State School of Character. Our program will continue moving forward to help our children make good choices. There is a  Character Ed Pillar for each month which staff and students spend some time exploring. We encourage our students to embrace the pillars of Character Education and continue to strive to make THMS a safe place for all to coexist together.  The Character Ed Pillar for May is compassion.  Staff and students will discuss how to feel and understand what other people are feeling. During Extended Advisory this month, teachers and students will explore ways to show compassion for others.    We strive to model the principal of Compassion everyday at THMS.  We hope this will spark discussion at home as well.
On Monday, May 9th, the Fourth Interim Progress Reporting Period ends. Please use this Progress Report as a tool to assist you in determining if your child is working as hard as he/she is capable of.  The door is open for you to continue to contact your children's teachers if you have any questions about their progress.
There are many exciting activities going on at THMS.  We are working hard to bring quality programs and to engage all our students in learning.   We continue to emphasize high expectations for achievement, alignment of the New York State Common Core Standards with our curriculum, and enhanced student/teacher engagement. We value our strong relationships with our students and their families.
