Dr. Humphrey

A message from the Principal

A Message from Dr. Donald Humphrey,
Principal of Turtle Hook Middle School

 Greetings THMS Families!

As 2016 comes to an end here at Turtle Hook, I encourage you to continue to be diligent in monitoring your student's grades and to be a support for them in all aspects of their education.  Powerschool is available as a resource to use when checking your student's grades. By working together we can ensure that all students are active members in the school community.

The Turtle Hook Administration, Teachers, and Staff are proud to announce that our strong Character Education program has been making a difference. This month we are focusing on Respect. Character Education is taking part in a Community Service Project called Operation Gratitude. Operation Gratitude is where communities around the country gather supplies and goods for our active service men and women overseas.

In addition, on SUNDAY, DECEMBER 4nd Character Education committee will be asking for donations at the Shop Rite in Uniondale from 12:00-3:00. Come bring your family and friends to shop for a great cause. The address is:

Shop Rite(Next to Walmart)
1121 Jerusalem Avenue
Uniondale, NY 11553

The 21st Century enrichment program has begun and students are engaged in project based learning after school. Music students are also preparing for our Winter Concert!

We hope that you will be active members in our community and continue to attend our PTA meetings.

Have a happy holiday!!

National School of Character

National School of Character

Turtle Hook Middle School has been named a National School of Character by Character.org, a national organization that supports the advancement of character development in schools, communities, and workplaces across the U.S. and globally. Turtle Hook celebrated this honor at a national forum that was held in Washington, D.C. on October 15, 2016.

This prestigious honor recognizes schools that have demonstrated a dedicated focus on character development programs that show positive impact on academic achievement, student behavior and school climate. Turtle Hook Middle School was one of 68 finalists in the country for this award, which required a site visit and an analysis of the impact its character-related efforts have had at the school.

The award is based on how a school implements the partnership’s 11 Principles of Effective Character Education. National Schools of Character hold their designation for five years. We are honored to have this title and we would like to thank all of you, especially the parents and community members, for continuing to partner with us as we serve as positive role models for all children.
