A Message from Dr. Donald Humphrey,
Principal of Turtle Hook Middle School

Greetings THMS Families,
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year!  I encourage you to take a few moments to explore our website and familiarize yourself with all the information available.  We continue to utilize our ability to share information electronically through our website.  In addition, our Turtle Hook Families will continue to receive "School Messenger" telephone messages informing you of important events.
Our strong Character Education program will continue moving forward to help our children make good choices. There is a  Character Ed Pillar for each month which staff and students spend some time exploring. We encourage our students to embrace the pillars of Character Education and continue to strive to make THMS a safe place for all to coexist together.  The Character Ed Pillar for October is Trustworthiness.  Staff and students will spend time exploring what it means to be trustworthy during an extended advisory period this month.  During October we also focus on our anti-bullying programs.  We model how to "Be A Buddy, Not a Bully" for our students and hope it will spark discussion at home as well.
During this month, you will receive your child's first Progress Report.  Use this tool to assist you in determining if your child is working as hard as he/she is capable of.  Please contact your children's teachers if you have any questions about their progress.
There are many exciting activities going on at THMS.  We are working hard to bring quality programs and to engage all our students in learning.   We continue to emphasize high expectations for achievement, alignment of the New York State Common Core Standards with our curriculum, and enhanced student/teacher engagement. We value our strong relationships with our students and their families.
Here are some important dates and information to note for the month of October:

    Oct. 5-6:   Picture Days
Oct.  6  :   Board of Ed. Meeting: 7PM @ UHS
Oct.  7  :   End of Secondary Progress Reporting
Oct. 9   :   Hispanic Heritage Celebration Assembly
Oct. 12 :   School Closed: Columbus Day
Oct. 27 :   Board of Ed. Meeting: 7PM @ UHS
For more specific dates and TH daily activities/events, please check the calendar on our Homepage.
Homework Center and After -School Clubs hours are 3:10-4:10.  Sixth Grade Homework Center is open until 5PM.  Encourage your child to take advantage of the many resources offered at THMS.  Our teachers have posted their Extra-Help Schedules and are always available to assist your child.  Please try to attend one of our P.T.A. Meetings and become more involved in the THMS Family.
Communication is the key for home-school connections.  As always, the THMS Building Administration, Ms. Johnson, Mrs. Ritter, and I, are available if you have any comments, questions, or concerns. Please call or stop in to share them with us.   I am proud to be a part of a team that works its hardest to make good things happen for our students.
We are just getting started and I am looking forward to great things happening this year at THMS.
My continued thanks to all of you for making Turtle Hook Middle School T.E.R.R.I.F.I.C.
         Dr. Donald Humphrey
