Daily Announcements

Dear Parents,

We live in a world surrounded by technology. We know that whatever field our students choose to pursue, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. However, only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and fewer students are studying it than a decade ago.

That’s why the Uniondale School District is joining in on the largest learning event in history,The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 8-14). Last year, 15 million students tried computer science in one week. This year, we're joining students worldwide to reach 100 million students!

Uniondale is introducing and teaching these foundational 21st century skills.  We are.planning an exciting week of code activities to promote the national program during the week of December 8.  A team of experts from Codescholarly will be coming to the elementary and middle schools to provide students with exposure to coding. Programming activities will take place in all high school math classes.

A Message from Dr. Donald Humphrey,
Principal of Turtle Hook Middle School

Greetings THMS Families,
Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year!  I encourage you to take a few moments to explore our website and familiarize yourself with all the information available.  We continue to utilize our ability to share information electronically through our website.  In addition, our Turtle Hook Families will continue to receive "School Messenger" telephone messages informing you of important events.

Our strong Character Education program will continue moving forward to help our children make good choices. There is a  Character Ed Pillar for each month which staff and students spend some time exploring. We encourage our students to embrace the pillars of Character Education and continue to strive to make THMS a safe place for all to coexist together.  The Character Ed Pillar for October is trustworthiness.
There are many exciting activities going on at THMS.  We are working hard to bring quality programs and to engage all our students in learning.   We continue to emphasize high expectations for achievement, alignment of the New York State Common Core Standards with our curriculum, and enhanced student/teacher engagement. We will continue our strong relationships with our students and their families.
