Message from Dr. Humphrey

Greetings THMS Families:

Summer break 2019 is just about over and I hope everyone has enjoyed their time off.  For our parents and scholars, I encourage you to take a few moments to explore our website and familiarize yourself with all the information available.

Considering the current economic concerns, we have pledged to “Go Green” and will continue to share most of our information electronically through our website, instead of home mailings.   In addition, our Turtle Hook Families will continue to receive “ConnectEd” telephone messages informing you of important events.  While I am composing this message, I would like to remind everyone of the following:

  • The First Day of School will be Tuesday, September 3, 2019 and scholars are expected to arrive as early as 7:15 am and no later than 7:45 am.
  • Parents should park across the street or use our parking lot to drop off their children and not the circle.
  • Students should NOT bring in all of their supplies on the first day. Instead, students should bring in their book bags with four notebooks or binders and writing utensils. Their teachers will explain what other items to bring in for the remainder of the week.
  • The school day will end at 3:05 pm and parents, who are driving, must be in the parking lot to pick up their before 3:00 pm. Otherwise, you must park across the street and the crossing guard will assist the students.

Thank you for making Turtle Hook Middle School T.E.R.R.I.F.I.C.

Dr. Donald Humphrey

National School of Character

National School of Character

Turtle Hook Middle School has been named a National School of Character by Character.org, a national organization that supports the advancement of character development in schools, communities, and workplaces across the U.S. and globally. Turtle Hook celebrated this honor at a national forum that was held in Washington, D.C. on October 15, 2016.

This prestigious honor recognizes schools that have demonstrated a dedicated focus on character development programs that show positive impact on academic achievement, student behavior and school climate. Turtle Hook Middle School was one of 68 finalists in the country for this award, which required a site visit and an analysis of the impact its character-related efforts have had at the school.

The award is based on how a school implements the partnership’s 11 Principles of Effective Character Education. National Schools of Character hold their designation for five years. We are honored to have this title and we would like to thank all of you, especially the parents and community members, for continuing to partner with us as we serve as positive role models for all children.
