2020 Census

Dear Uniondale Community,
The 2020 Census is easy. The questions are simple
Your responses to the 2020 Census are safesecure, and protected by federal law. Your answers can only be used to produce statistics—they cannot be used against you in any way. By law, all responses to the U.S. Census Bureau household and business surveys are kept completely confidential.  Respond online to the 2020 Census to shape the future. Responding to the census helps communities get the funding they need and helps businesses make data-driven decisions that grow the economy.

Help our Graduates!

Governor Cuomo has closed school buildings for the remainder of the school year, all end of the year activities are also canceled. For our 8th graders, this means that it is unfortunate they will not be able to experience their class trip, the 8th grade dance, or the 8th grade BBQ. Additionally, many of our families are now experiencing greater financial difficulties than ever before.

Considering these difficult times, we would like to make every effort for our 8th grade students to receive a yearbook and T-shirt to commemorate this unique moment in their lives. We are asking for anyone who has the ability, and is interested, to sponsor our 8th grade graduating students. Your donation will allow a student to walk away with a tangible memory of the joyful moments they shared at Turtle Hook Middle School.

$40 = sponsorship for one student

$80 = sponsorship for two students

other donations are appreciated.

Thank you and Be Well

Google Classroom and how to join

Google Classroom

Every teacher has created a virtual class using the platform called Google Classroom.

Students can log in on any computer, tablet, phone, or other mobile device with wifi access.  They will use their Google logins.  The format is as follows:

School Gmail address: username@student.uniondaleschools.orgOpens in a new browser tab

Note: This username is the same one used to log on to our school computers.  In most cases, it follows the format of the first initial of their first name followed by their last name with no spaces.

Gmail password: the same password they use when logging on to Chromebooks as well as Google here at school

Note: The format for password is typically the child’s initials in reverse order followed by the last for digits of their Student ID # followed by their initials in the correct order.

EXAMPLE:  If the student’s name is John Smith, his Google login would likely be:

jsmith@student.uniondaleschools.orgOpens in a new browser tab

To join a Google classroom, use the code given by your teacher. When you sign into Google Classroom you will see a plus sign in the upper right hand corner. Select join class and you will be prompted to enter the class code.

Student eLearning Update

Online Classroom Letter for Parents.docx (spanish)

Dear Turtle Hook Families:

First, I hope that this message finds you and your families in good health.

As a reminder, although our building is closed, we are officially in an ONLINE SCHOOL MODE. This simply means that the Teaching Staff have been preparing lessons through their Online Google Classrooms. Students were emailed, through their school accounts, and asked to join their teachers Online Google Classroom.

During the week of March 9th, we were able finalize the rollout of these online classes, through District-wide Professional Development Sessions. Knowing this, in order to continue to meet the academic success that our community is known for, we ask that you are patient considering this process is new to all of us.

What does this mean for our scholars? While many of our students have been online this week, and throughout the year, working with their Teachers, beginning this Monday, March 23rd, at 8:00 am, all scholars can go directly to their Google Classroom to find lessons and assignments. This will be an A Day. This is extremely important because all scholars will follow their regular daily class schedules, alternating from A and B days. All assignments must be completed by the end of their regular class period, unless the teacher has indicated otherwise.

Turtle Hook Faculty and Staff will be available to communicate with parents from 8 am-3 pm during each day of online learning. Similarly to our regular school day, please remember that staff members will be engaged in teaching throughout much of the day, therefore, response times will vary.

Again, it is extremely important that scholars go to their Online Google Classrooms each day, during their regularly scheduled periods, in order to retrieve their daily Learning Goals and assignments.                         (Our Bell Schedule is posted)

Grades will be calculated based on work submitted and participation in the varied learning tasks.  For those students, who have Self-Contained smaller classes, packets of work have been sent home and will continue to be sent home during our time away from the building.

Daily lessons will vary with Synchronous Lessons (For example, using Video-Conferencing such as Google Meet, during the actual time a class would meet) and Asynchronous Lessons (here, independent learning tasks will be provided for completion, with a submission time by the teacher).

Our Guidance Department has also created their Online Google Classrooms. Scholars can email their questions and participate in Social-Emotional activities designed by their Counselors.

You can continue to reach the building Administrative Team by leaving a message at 918-1300 or via email. We ask that you find time to visit our website and/or the District Website for additional announcements.

Finally, please pay close attention to the health precautions that are available on the District Website and Televised Public Service Announcements.

Together we will overcome this crisis and stand stronger than ever before.

National School of Character

National School of Character

Turtle Hook Middle School has been named a National School of Character by, a national organization that supports the advancement of character development in schools, communities, and workplaces across the U.S. and globally. Turtle Hook celebrated this honor at a national forum that was held in Washington, D.C. on October 15, 2016.

This prestigious honor recognizes schools that have demonstrated a dedicated focus on character development programs that show positive impact on academic achievement, student behavior and school climate. Turtle Hook Middle School was one of 68 finalists in the country for this award, which required a site visit and an analysis of the impact its character-related efforts have had at the school.

The award is based on how a school implements the partnership’s 11 Principles of Effective Character Education. National Schools of Character hold their designation for five years. We are honored to have this title and we would like to thank all of you, especially the parents and community members, for continuing to partner with us as we serve as positive role models for all children.
